OHA Preparedness Public Information VISTA (Portland)
 
 
 
This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. The last day to submit an application is July 31, 2022. The Oregon Health Authority is at the forefront of lowering and containing costs, improving quality, and increasing access to health care to improve the lifelong health of Oregonians. The Oregon public health system includes federal, tribal, state, and local agencies, private organizations and other diverse partners working to protect and promote the health of all Oregonians and the places we live, work, play, learn and age. This position is with the Health Security, Preparedness and Response Program. The mission of the HSPR Program is to develop public health systems to prepare for and respond to major and acute threats and emergencies that impact the health of people in Oregon. We collaborate with Oregon Emergency Management (OEM) and our local, regional and national Emergency Management partners. This position is in Portland, home to Oregon’s largest cultural hub. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy explore and appreciate everything the city has to offer. Member Duties : As part of a health equity and COVID response initiative this position aims to include voices of low-income and vulnerable populations in statewide public health planning and response. Leading with an equity lens, member will: 1) Evaluate the impacts of multiple disasters simultaneously occurring (COVID and wildfires). 2) Use improvement plans to further equity in public information responses. 3) Support all-hazards preparedness communications plans. 4) Support regional communications support and building capacity for emergency response. 5) Conduct key informant interviews and collect information on how communications and community engagement is integrated into larger, coordinated communications efforts. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve their communities through indirect service serving remotely or in a professional office. Applicants should possess four years of higher education or relevant work experience.
