OHA Preparedness Medical Surge VISTA (Portland)
 
 
 
This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. The last day to submit an application is July 17, 2022. Oregon Health Authority is at the forefront of lowering and containing costs, improving quality, and increasing access to health care to improve the lifelong health of Oregonians. The Oregon public health system includes federal, tribal, state, and local agencies, private organizations and other diverse partners working to protect and promote the health of all Oregonians and the places we live, work, play, learn and age. This position is with the Health Security, Preparedness and Response Program. The mission of the HSPR Program is to develop public health systems to prepare for and respond to major and acute threats and emergencies that impact the health of people in Oregon. This position is in Portland, home to Oregon’s largest cultural hub. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy explore and appreciate everything the city has to offer. Member Duties : Part of a health equity and COVID response initiative this position aims to include voices of low-income and vulnerable populations in statewide public health emergency preparedness planning and response. This position has the opportunity to participate in state level public health emergency response efforts. The member can serve remotely or in a professional office. The member will: 1) Build equitable medical surge capacity in underserved areas of rural Oregon. 2) Focus on enhancing preparedness through implementing additional Tele-medicine capabilities. 3) Coordinate with the Oregon Burn Center and partners to understand interregional/interstate dispersion of burn patients in a surge event. 4) Research other states preparedness planning for patient movement, burn plans, telemedicine and how they are integrating equity with the goal to identify key factors in all-hazards preparedness planning focusing on equitable outcomes. Members will serve remotely or in a professional office.
