OHA Behavioral Health Disaster Response VISTA (Portland)
 
 
 
This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. OHA is at the forefront of lowering and containing costs, improving quality and increasing access to health care in order to improve the lifelong health of Oregonians. The Oregon Public Health Division works to protect and promote the health of all Oregonians and the places we live, work, play, learn and age. The Oregon public health system includes federal, tribal, state, and local agencies, private organizations and other diverse partners working together to put healthy options and health-promoting services within reach for everyone in Oregon. Oregon needs a robust public health system to achieve better health and better care at lower costs. This position is unique in that it is hosted by the Oregon Public Health Division in the Health Security, Preparedness and Response program, in close coordination with OHA’s Senior Behavioral Health Advisor. Additionally, the work of the member will support the Behavioral Health Services unit of Oregon’s Health Systems Division. This position is in Portland, home to Oregon’s largest cultural hub. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy explore and appreciate everything the city has to offer. Member Duties : As part of a health equity and COVID response initiative this position aims to include voices of low-income and vulnerable populations in statewide public health planning and response. The AmeriCorps member will: 1) Learn the intricacies of the FEMA Crisis Counseling grants and other behavioral health disaster response to provide capacity building and system change suggestions. 2) Partner with local organizations who support activities designed to address the psychosocial health of vulnerable populations living in poverty. 3) Collaborate on mental health and substance use disorder supports, outreach and communications options during a disaster response. 4) Improve and update the Behavioral All-Hazards Disaster Response & Recovery Guide by assisting with continuity planning and emergency preparedness and response for communities. The member will either serve remotely or in a professional office. Applicants should possess four years of higher education or relevant work experience.
