Career Development Coordinator VISTA

We believe one of the most effective ways to fight poverty is to secure and retain a living wage career. Our building trades workforce training program trains, supports, and connects people to gainful employment in the building trades. It is a 20 week program that provides: Paid, on-the job training in our deconstruction services and Chicago retail store social enterprises. Through work-based learning, trainees get experience in skills that are valued and needed in the building trades industry in everything from tool competencies to job readiness to customer services. Vocational Skill Development + Certifications -Participants receive the OSHA 10 Construction, EPA Lead Paint RRP Renovator, and Sitting & Standing Forklift. D Barrier Reduction Services - We assist in reducing barriers that prevent access to building trades careers. This could include lack of transportation, inadequate or unaffordable healthcare, food insecurity, and housing instability. Career development and Readiness training in a variety of topics including executive skills development; job search and preparation support; and digital and financial literacy. Connection and placement to quality careers via our network of more than 30 building trades employers. Career pathways include woodworking, carpentry, masonry, home repair, HVAC, union apprenticeship programs, or guide our participants into certification programs to become welders, plumbers, or electricians. We stay in touch with program alumni formally two years after graduation to provide ongoing professional development and employment assistance.
