HOME Marketing and Communications VISTA

The HOME Marketing and Communications VISTA will be hosted by HOME, Inc., a local affordable housing agency located in Des Moines, IA. Each year, HOME, Inc. works with more than 2,500 clients to provide counseling, education, financial assistance, or housing to individuals in our community struggling with housing. You will strategically build capacity for awareness of HOME, Inc. and the services we provide. With greater awareness, HOME, Inc. can expand our reach in the community by helping more clients, engage in more community collaborations, and increase the number of donors. This position will be responsible for driving impact quantitatively and qualitatively on social media with well researched campaign creation while partnering with other departments within the organization to learn about how their specific department’s message can be amplified. This position will be critical to the community and constituent’s understanding of the offerings of HOME, Inc. The ideal candidate will be someone who believes in our vision that every person has a place to call home. This candidate will be eager to learn the ins and outs of how to integrate creative marketing and communication strategies with our mission of affordable housing. Specifically, your work will focus on leading organizational marketing, including: social media, website presence, blog, email marketing, and print materials. You will also collaborate with HOME, Inc. staff to identify awareness and support needs and how to communicate those to the larger community. A great opportunity for a strong communicator interested in marketing, community awareness, and social justice. Applicants should be able to successfully work independently, be organized, have strong writing skills, and have a passion for affordable housing for all. This position will have the opportunity to work a hybrid in-person and telework model.

Member Duties : The HOME Marketing and Communications VISTA will be responsible for creating promotional materials and posts for HOME, Inc.’s counseling and education programs, the property department, and the organization as a whole. They will learn our brand voice in order to effectively communicate the mission on our social media accounts with the expectation of posting at a minimum of 3 times per week, writing weekly blogs, and curating a monthly newsletter. They will also learn social algorithms to understand how to produce positive results. Build storyboards for social media and for newsletters that are specific to our programs (housing counseling and education, home repair, neighborhood revitalization, etc) in order to give our constituents a deeper dive into our offerings. Complete and present weekly reports that will help us understand the ebbs and flows in our data as well as our week-over-week impact. These reports will be reviewed by the supervisor and other relevant programmatic staff.
