Collaborating with partners on and off-campus, the AmeriCorps VISTA will build on existing university resources to address food insecurity at JMU by increasing the capacity of the Food Pantry. This position entails contributing to the success of campus and community-wide efforts through executing the responsibilities listed. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $675.08. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide an off-campus housing stipend, a parking pass, fitness center access, and professional development opportunities. The AmeriCorps member serving at JMU will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : 1. Build and strengthen relationships and communication with community and campus partners. This will include convening stakeholders and coordinating meetings. 2. Provide support and coordination assistance to The Pantry food access programs. 3. Assist with the development and implementation of evaluation and assessment tools. 4. Collect and compile data. 5. Research funding opportunities and other resources to ensure program sustainability. 6. Research food insecurity, develop best practices, and learn about the SNAP application process 7. Develop outreach materials and education sessions for students on how to access SNAP and other Food Pantry resources.
