2023 LASOS Foundations Coordinator
 
 
 
The Foundations Program was created to help non- native English-speaking youth ages 4-21 who need additional support academically and socially due to socio- economic factors, societal indifferences, transitional living, homelessness, and cultural incompetency. The program is designed to enhance language acquisition skills, academic assistance and pro-social connections to positive adult and peer relationships. By goal setting and exposure to opportunities the youth are introduced and supported throughout the educational process from elementary to college/ trade school.

Member Duties : The requested VISTA personnel is tasked with the following duties to support the Foundations Program: Assist with after-school programming as a mentor to students during the school year. Assist with the LASOS summer camp by coordinating volunteers, assisting in classrooms and on field trips as needed, and helping coordinate the schedule of guest speakers and events. Communicate with the schools the students in programming that attend to gather information about their attendance, grades, and any other pertinent information. Help with preparation for both the after-school programming and summer camp. Assist with youth programming throughout the county offered through LASOS Adapt evidence-based practices for youth mentoring ad student engagement Collect data on student achievement in the programs as well as satisfaction surveys Collaborate with staff on fundraising efforts and outreach initiatives.
