'22 Food Security Summer Associate at Nourish Pierce, #3

The mission of Nourish Pierce County is to provide nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect. For more than forty years Nourish has provided a lifeline of support to its clients. Nourish operates 21 active food bank distribution sites throughout Pierce County. With a high cost of living and low wages, the need for our food banks is great in Pierce County. Over 100,000 people in Pierce County are food insecure. In Pierce County, 12% of households live in poverty and another 24% are above the poverty line, have a job, but still do not make enough to afford basic necessities such as housing, childcare, and food. Nourish emphasizes nutritious food and helping clients to learn how to cook healthy meals, so that people are empowered to make healthy choices, regardless of whether they continue to receive their food from a food bank. In 2014, Nourish was named “Non-Profit of the year” by the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce.
