2022 Summer STEAM Integration in MontgomeryPublic Schools
 
 
 
Arts on the Block (AOB) will be partnering with Montgomery County Public Schools to provide its Youth Arts Movement (YAM) program in two middle schools this summer as part of its extended day program. YAM seamlessly connects the Elements of Art with various science, technology, engineering, and math terms and topics, plus helps to enhance literacy and provides Spanish-English translation within a safe, fun, and engaging environment.A VISTA member will team up with a seasoned Lead and other staff to plan, implement, and assess this summer STEAM integration endeavor.VISTA candidates should be interested in (and have knowledge of) one or more of the following: Visual Art,STEM topics, adequate fluency in Spanish and English, Positive Youth Development, and education.

Member Duties : A VISTA member will be helping AOB break new ground, as we establish a consistent, safe, and creative presence in two middle schools this summer - Banneker M.S. in Burtonsville ,and Eastern M.S. in the Long Branch area of Silver Spring. AOB is very familiar with the communities and the youth in general - as we have worked with these populations and areas for many years. VISTA members will be asked to do the following (along with other YAM/AOB staff):Assist YAM staff with curriculum development. Prepare Art Kits for cohort. Plan to facilitate/teach one or more activities through the 4+ week, 3 day/week program. Meet regularly with the cohort team, YAM Manager and AOB staff to provide updates, assess progress and address challenges. Assist with a culminating event that highlights students’ creative achievements. Contribute feedback during an end-of-program debrief. Engage with AOB staff and youth outside of YAM, as time allows
