NLADA Community Partnerships VISTA - GA

Because the quality of justice in America should not depend on how much money a person has, National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) leads public defenders, community advocates, and civil attorneys to advance justice and expand opportunity for all by promoting excellent delivery of legal services for people who cannot afford counsel. NLADA’s AmeriCorps VISTA program, Defending Communities in Service, builds sustainable community relationships, data systems, and practices that allow public defender offices to more holistically support communities in need with a strong focus on racial equity. In this position, NLADA has partnered with Augusta Judicial Circuit Public Defender to build up holistic services in Georgia. The Augusta Judicial Circuit Public Defender zealously represents indigent people charged with a crime in Richmond County, GA. This position will put you into the full environment of a public defender office with regular opportunities to court watch, attend local government meetings, and meet public defense leaders across the state of Georgia. You will join the Client Services Division to impact clients’ lives beyond the courtroom.

Member Duties : Since 2018, our Client Services Division has expanded its capacity to connect clients to wraparound services, such as substance abuse treatment, mental health supports, and housing. We need someone to help us strengthen and develop new relationships with community partners. In this role, the member will utilize their proven communication skills to advocate for the dignity, needs, and rights of clients. They will conduct research to find opportunities for clients to receive support, build a comprehensive method of tracking partnerships, and ensure the sustainability of those relationships. The ideal candidate will need people skills, a commitment to the well-being of the community, and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across a spectrum of political, social, and cultural ideologies.
