Immigration and Language Access VISTA

The NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care and education services. The ACS Office of Immigrant Services and Language Affairs (ISLA), which the VISTA Member will join, works across ACS divisions and contracted nonprofit agencies to ensure that ACS programming and policies are meeting the needs of our immigrant and limited-English proficient families. The ISLA VISTA Member will work to establish language access best practices at the new programs to build their capacity and cultural sensitivity for working with immigrant and limited-English proficient clients. In addition, the VISTA Member will work with ACS’s foster care agencies to develop programming and best practices for working with bilingual immigrant families. Furthermore, the VISTA Member will work to support ACS’s current programs for immigrant clients, including our Immigration Services for Youth in Care Program and our U Visa Certification Program. The VISTA Member would be joining a small but dynamic, engaged and supportive team. Working with the ISLA office provides a unique opportunity to be an advocate within a large city agency and see how city government can work to improve the lives of its residents. More information about ACS can be found at www1.nyc.gov/site/acs/index.page
