VYT-Vermont Energy Education Program
PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: SITE: Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP) runs a range of energy, climate, environmental, and sustainability science education programs with teachers and students across Vermont. Programs: K-12 student workshops, project support, teaching partnerships, professional development courses and workshops, youth climate conferences, and no- to low-cost lesson and equipment resources. We believe that climate, energy, and environmental dignity and resiliency draws from and leads to economic dignity and resiliency. Our programs equip educators and young people with the knowledge, tools, resources, skills, support, and agency to make and encourage decisions that move our communities toward a sustainable and just future. We are driven to provide broad and equitable access to our programs across our region. Providing equitable access means working intentionally to engage with economically marginalized communities. The AmeriCorps VISTA member has a significant impact in bringing a sustainable access lens to the development, execution, and evaluation of our programs. The VISTA creates permanent systems that promote our programs to a broader audience with an emphasis of reaching economically marginalized communities in Vermont. COVID-19: We shifted to a virtual format and developed new curricula & programming to meet needs. The VISTA ensures that we engage in thoughtful outreach to communities most affected by COVID-19. Location: Montpelier, VT
