Office of Constituent Services VISTA
 
 
 
The Office of Constituent Services (OCS) connects over 3 million New Yorkers in need with vital services and programs that are provided by the Department of Social Services (DSS), Human Resources Administration (HRA), and Department of Homeless Services (DHS). DSS, HRA, and DHS are dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality. The OCS Operations Unit works directly with the 5 sub-divisions of OCS to ensure that staff has the most current knowledge about the programs and services provided by DSS when interacting with clients. Additionally, OCS is responsible for maintaining all DSS content on the NYC 311 portal. The selected VISTA member will help expand and rebrand the Knowledge Base repository that is used by staff to answer client inquiries about DSS programs; develop a new comprehensive manual that is used by over 200 OCS staff members; and perform reviews and construction of communications templates that staff utilize when corresponding with clients and advocates. This VISTA position is a part of the NYC VISTA program, a group of 25+ VISTA members serving in New York City Government agencies supporting their anti-poverty work. The NYC VISTA program is administered by NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor. This position is supervised directly by a city agency staff member and will be a part of the larger NYC VISTA community. Member Duties : The selected VISTA member will work closely with the OCS Operations Unit to develop communications and training tools for staff who interact with clients and the general public. The member will also help overhaul the Knowledge Base. DSS clients contact OCS in regard to applying and recertifying benefits, or when they have specific questions about the benefits they receive. This position requires an individual who is highly organized, possesses an extreme attention to detail, and has the ability to multi-task. The VISTA member will be responsible for reviewing policies from state and city agencies to ensure that updated content is accurate and made in a timely fashion.
