PRI Health Corps

The goal of the PRI Health Corps is to reduce food insecurity and promote healthy living to the under-resourced population in eastern North Carolina. Twelve full-time AmeriCorps members will promote a farm to table approach to under-resourced/served populations such as Veterans, the legally blind and school-aged children. The program will be administered by Pamlico Rose Institute (PRI) located in Washington, NC. PRI Health Corps will develop and maintain three community gardens with related aims of harvesting and distributing fresh vegetables, while teaching under-resourced adults and youth the fundamentals of good nutrition. Project outcomes include a positive change in behavior toward healthy fruits and vegetables and exposure to the benefit of gardening as a life skill. This program will also expose Health Corps and service recipients to public health networks of care and career opportunities. Pamlico Rose Institute is a 501(c)3, that provides wellness, healthy living and resilience programs for women Veterans in eastern NC.
