***Public Health Youth Development Leader - Portland

Goodwill NNE invests in people who need support to achieve their life and work goals. VISION: Everyone can achieve and maintain personal stability with the help of Goodwill’s holistic approach to services and employment. GOAL: Goodwill will move 10,000 people into personal stability by 2027. Our goals are clearly intertwined to ensure that we address our employee satisfaction and stability, create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, provide excellent client services and build a sustainable financial framework for the future. Goodwill AmeriCorps operates 5 AmeriCorps programs and is passionate about national service. We work hard to put emphasis on making a positive impact in the community and creating outstanding volunteer opportunities for AmeriCorps members. We believe in the power of national service and do our best to make this an opportunity for all who want to get things done in the community! Goodwill NNE's Public Health AmeriCorps (PHA) program places members with community organizations in Maine to address CDC-determined needs for the most underserved populations. PHA specifically places members in schools and nonprofits to support youth who have been impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) by implementing the Goodwill Youth Development Model. PHA members work with community partner agencies to develop and carry out localized, evidence-based interventions, directly serving youth while increasing organizational capacity. Throughout their service, members gain the experience and training needed to prepare them for entering the public health and youth development workforce.

Member Duties : Under the Goodwill Youth Development Model, members serve as mentors, using social and emotional learning best practices to build relationships with a portfolio of youth impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences. As mentors, members prioritize youth voice; engage diverse youth in cohort-based programming and experiential learning to facilitate peer-to-peer engagement; and help with goal management. The Leader will directly mentor 10 high school upper-class, former participants of host site programming. This includes cohorts from Portland non-profits and Lewiston, ME schools. The member will be co-supervised by Goodwill NNE Workforce staff to learn more about employability and leadership skills based on the 21st Century Skills in Career and Technical Education curriculum. The PHA Leader and Goodwill staff supervisor will support youth in workforce development throughout their terms, relaying training opportunities to and community connections to other youth development members.
