Strategic Partnerships VISTA

The Office of Community Schools (OCS) works with schools and communities to advance equity by embracing a “whole child, whole community” approach – looking holistically at students, families, and communities. Schools enter into a partnership with a community-based organization (CBO), and working together with students, families, and community partners, determine student assets and needs and develop partnerships, programs, and services tailored to those needs. The Strategic Partnerships VISTA will work with a central team to strategically coordinate resources and collaborate with diverse public and non-profit partners to help ensure students living in poverty have access to the wraparound supports they need, such as free afterschool programming, health services, food, and clothing. This is an exciting service learning opportunity for a person interested in the education field with great research, communication, and project management skills. The VISTA will additionally work on furthering the work of anti-racism and equity within the office. VISTA position is a part of the NYC VISTA program, a group of 25+ VISTA members serving in New York City Government agencies supporting their anti-poverty work. The NYC VISTA program is administered by NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor. This position is supervised directly by a city agency staff member and will be a part of the larger NYC VISTA community. Member Duties : The Strategic Partnerships VISTA will: (1) Support free afterschool and summer program partnerships in DOE schools and build capacity of afterschool staff, parents, and families. (2) Develop and strengthen data systems with regards to key OCS community partnerships. (3) Empower students in NYC Community Schools to use their voices, exercise leadership and create positive changes within their school communities through membership on the OCS Youth Advisory Council. (4) Develop trainings and build out support to create a sustainable governing body for CARE (Committee on Anti-Racism and Equity).
