Education Services VISTA

The New York City Department of Probation (DOP) helps build stronger and safer communities by working with and supervising people on probation, fostering positive change in their decision-making and behavior, and expanding opportunities for them to move out of the criminal and juvenile justice systems through meaningful education, employment, health services, family engagement, and civic participation. Partnering with community-based organizations and government entities is critical to our mission and success. The Education Unit works with education service providers, the NYC Department of Education, and community members to ensure clients meets their educational goals. The unit serves as a unique communications vehicle throughout the agency by managing weekly newsletters, special projects, and internal communications about educational opportunities. The VISTA will have the opportunity network with high- level city officials, run their own newsletter, and create their own special project related to advancing education services within the agency. This role is primarily marketing, but has plenty of room for creativity to meet your professional goals. This VISTA position is a part of the NYC VISTA program, a group of 25+ VISTA members serving in New York City Government agencies supporting their anti-poverty work. The NYC VISTA program is administered by NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor. This position is supervised directly by a city agency staff member and will be a part of the larger NYC VISTA community. Member Duties : The overall project for Education VISTA is to keep the agency updated on education- related news and services on daily/weekly basis. For about 52 weeks, the Education VISTA will work on developing the agency E-Blasts and Education Corner content. The VISTA will be responsible for daily brief news updates by scanning news and social media for Education updates and sending bullet points on current events between 9AM and 10AM. The E-Blasts are the VISTA’s creative perspectives on news updates, programs, and services they’ve learned about during the previous weeks. E-Blasts only go out twice a week, and there is a lot of latitude for creativity. Along the way, there will be two to three projects that the VISTA will develop with a little guidance. (Speaker series, Christmas Book Give-a-Way, Client Interview series).
