University of Nebraska-Lincoln VISTA Leader

In recent years, disasters and extreme weather have seriously disrupted Nebraskans’ ways of life. For vulnerable populations, facing this results in devastating reduced income, limited access to food and services, and heightened stress. The mission of Nebraska Extension is “Helping Nebraskans enhance their lives through research-based education.” We are the public outreach and engagement branch of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), we develop and deliver meaningful educational resources and experiences to people of all ages. Our VISTA program is committed to creating innovative disaster recovery and resiliency programs that protect and support communities from the frontlines and champion sustainability. UNL’s VISTA Leader will facilitate AmeriCorps VISTA members’ anti-poverty service projects engaged in: enhancing access to quality food systems, educating on disaster preparedness and resiliency, and eliminating poverty through land access and sustainability programming for underprivileged farmers across the state. The position will maintain existing protocols and develop new ones with UNL’s VISTA Program Coordinator. Specifically, the VISTA Leader will ensure project success through supporting recruitment efforts, developing training and orientation, and providing professional development. We are looking for someone who is passionate about team building and mentorship. Our ideal member is ready to tackle exciting challenges, able to identify creative ways to solve problems, and can turn ideas into realities. Our VISTA Leader will work in a highly engaging educational environment where they can collaborate with university experts, build their network, and participate in professional development to grow an innovative, relevant skillset. This position is located in Lincoln, the state capital, which is a vibrant university town with plenty to offer in arts, recreation, education, and culture. For more information, contact Julien Hoffman, julien.hoffman@unl.edu.
