Green Mountain Transit

Green Mountain Transit is the public transit provider for Northwest and the Central Vermont area. Our mission is to promote and operate safe, convenient, accessible, innovative and sustainable public transportation services in the northwest and central Vermont region that reduce congestion and pollution, encourage transit-oriented development and enhance the quality of life for all. Recently the organization begun the development of its Transit Strategic Plan, a comprehensive document that will help guide the organization as well as a Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. These two initiatives together are building the framework for the organization to have a more transparent process for service planning and developing ways to better engage with those who have been traditionally under represented and underserved. In addition GMT is undertaking many technology based transit solutions such as the implementation of micro transit in the states capital with potential for expansion to other areas of our service area.

Member Duties : The VISTA will focus on creating and managing a volunteer based outreach team that will focus on personalized outreach to our regular riders as well as those we don’t reach in our traditional communication methods. This will range from capturing personal stories of passengers experience at individual bus stops to attending community events we haven’t normally attended. All of the information captured by the VISTA will be included as part of a new service planning process to help better inform GMT staff and the board impacts of service changes and priority areas for future expansion. They will work with staff to develop a more comprehensive and expanded outreach dedicated to our micro transit program including the current service area as well as any future growth of the program. The VISTA will also work with GMT planning and marketing staff to support the work of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee which is made up of staff, board members, and community members.
