2022-23 NY State Domestic Violence Prevention Systems VISTA

The New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), located in Albany, New York, is the nation’s only Executive level governmental agency dedicated to end domestic violence and provides policy and technical assistance to the Governor and communities across the State, as well as public awareness efforts for all New Yorkers. The VISTA assigned to the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence will assist with the management and coordination of interagency and interdisciplinary, policy-focused work in the field of gender-based violence. Key skills will include the facilitation of stakeholder discussions, research across disciplines to better understand resources available to survivors, as well as gaps in available resources, and drafting reports to summarize issues and suggest recommendations. OPDV is seeking a research-oriented and results-driven candidate who is passionate about the issue of gender-based violence and is invested in bringing stakeholders together to work toward a common goal. Throughout the project timeline, the VISTA will build the capacity of OPDV to institutionalize community relationships amongst systems that respond to domestic and gender-based violence. The goal of this work is to ensure that response and prevention mechanisms are strengthened and to provide enhanced community capacity to respond to victims and survivors of domestic violence in a coordinated, trauma-informed manner that places the survivor’s needs, as opposed to the systemic norms, at the center. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience working in NYS government while helping to create meaningful policies that join together the work of a wide array of professionals in an effort to problem-solve and enhance the options available to survivors of gender-based violence as they forge their own paths to safety and success.
