2022 DuPage Habitat for Humanity Construction Crew Leader

This Construction Crew Leader VISTA Summer Associates will be hosted by DuPage Habitat for Humanity located in Wheaton, IL. DuPage Habitat for Humanity is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. DuPage Habitat for Humanity has partnered with people in our community, and all over the world, to help them build or improve a place they can call home. DuPage Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our support, DuPage Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families. In Fiscal Year 2019, DuPage Habitat for Humanity will serve more people than ever before through new and rehab construction, home repairs and Neighborhood Revitalization efforts. The goal of this project is to produce a volunteer experience that creates raving fans of the organization, compels them to return, and bring their friends and family. The AmeriCorps members serving in this role will be part of the team that will give the necessary boost to significantly increase the number of families our affiliate is able to serve through our Home Repair Program, Rehab, and New Construction projects. With the assistance of the AmeriCorps members serving in this role, we anticipate completing 3 new build, 3 rehabs, 5 home preservations projects during the service term, with a total of 11 families served.

Member Duties : Lead small groups of volunteers, ensuring that they are well-utilized while on the job site and following the task list assigned. Use volunteer management techniques to facilitate positive experiences for volunteers working on site. Collaborate with construction staff to identify skilled/enthusiastic volunteers and cultivate their involvement in Habitat’s work (i.e. encourage them to consider being trained as regular volunteer) Manage and track volunteers on site and their engagement level by using an NPS system in an efficient and consistent manner.
