Charleston- Green Heart Project VISTA Summer Associate
 
 
 
The Green Heart Project is seeking VISTA Summer Associates to serve as leaders for our 2022 Youth Internship Program (YIP), to take place at the Urban Farm at Enston Home in downtown Charleston. Over the course of this summer (June 6 - August 12, 2022), our Summer Associates will guide and manage a crew of (5 - 8) high school-aged young people, as they develop their career preparedness, healthy living, and citizenship skills. Some of the tasks and activities that our YIP Crews will participate in include: managing and maintaining an urban farm and market stand, engaging in educational workshops and field trips, and learning to work with a diverse team of community members. The Summer Associates must be able to build trust, foster engagement, and gain the respect of their high school-aged Crew Members. They will also develop teaching, leadership. and guidance skills of their own throughout the internship, alongside diverse hands-on learning experiences.

Member Duties : Summer Associates will be responsible for: Guiding Crew Members through their daily farm duties which include: growing, harvesting, and processing fruit and vegetable crops. Assisting in teaching crew members via daily educational sessions, workshops and community site visits. supporting their crew members as they price and sell the produce they have grown to market at our onsite farm stand. As our Crew Members grow positive relationships with the Earth, their community, and their food, our Summer Associates are there to help guide them. With this support, our interns will learn to be active stewards of their community and environment, creating positive change through growing, eating, and celebrating food.
