Community Connections VISTA- Dental Connections
The Community Connections VISTA will build impactful connections with the community through targeted marketing, outreach and volunteer engagement. The mission of Dental Connections is to provide equitable access and remove barriers to quality oral health care and education through community outreach and meaningful patient connections. The VISTA member will build capacity so that the organization can better serve residents of Polk, Dallas and Warren counties who are disproportionately impacted by economic, social, and healthcare challenges. 90% of Dental Connections’ approximately 21,000 patients seen in a typical year qualify for some form of public assistance or live at or below poverty level. Children under the age of 18 make up 78% of patients seen each year. 80% of Dental Connections’ patients access state insurance, 10% are uninsured, and 10% have private insurance. Dental Connections uses a unique safety net model to reduce disparities and allow for better oral health access for vulnerable community members. The Community Connections VISTA will advance the organization’s ability to carry out its mission by developing strategic relationships with volunteers, partners and the community. The member will focus on activities that increase the visibility and impact of the organization, including: • Marketing and external communications; • Community outreach to potential partner organizations; • Increased support from funders and donors • Volunteer recruitment and management. Together with local staff, the VISTA member will use tools such as targeted marketing and outreach to amplify the message of Dental Connections. The member will assess and rebuild volunteer and community outreach programs to pre-pandemic levels. In addition, the VISTA member will work with development staff to execute key fundraising events. These strategic efforts will allow Dental Connections to maximize its reach to underserved members of the community.
