DCAN Development & Marketing Specialist [MCN]

Central MN Dementia Community Action Network (DCAN)is a young and growing nonprofit organization (501(c)3 exemption awarded December 2019). DCAN’s mission is to “Improve access to quality dementia care throughout central Minnesota. Most of the referrals we receive are of patients who have already exhibited signs of cognitive decline. The need is to see more individuals and receive referrals to children and grandchildren of patients who have experienced dementia, particularly beginning in their 40s & early 50s, before symptoms of dementia begin, so that they can make the lifestyle changes to avoid or significantly delay dementia and extend their quality of life. Dementia is also the most expensive illness in the USA and the expenses related thereto can drive middle age and elderly patients into poverty. Early detection and prevention can significantly improve the quality of life and alleviate poverty in this growing population of patient sufferers, thus enabling patients to avoid losing all their income, assets, and not become dependent upon the state, charity, and/or risk becoming a financial burden on their children and successive generations. What has been missing is organized fund development from diverse funding sources including grants from private foundations; corporate sponsorships; individual giving; planned-giving; and organization of community awareness friend-raisers and fundraisers. There is also a need to reach further out (via targeted marketing and public relations campaigns) to rural communities and to special populations, including BIPOC individuals, to recruit primary practitioners/clinicians to refer patients and family members, to increase diversity on our board of directors, and to increase early detection/prevention in the general populations in the wider (largely rural) areas we serve.
