2022 Community Research VISTA Summer Associate

Want to learn how to create change in your own community, and have your voice heard? Want to understand the social, political, and economic forces that have shaped the Chicago neighborhood of Austin today? Want to learn how design can make a neighborhood more equitable for young people and everyone? Join Territory to help create the “Youth-Safe Space Charrette” an intergenerational workshop where young people, community organizations, and neighbors will use design thinking tools and their own lived experience to propose safe spaces for youth that incorporate the community assets in Austin now, and that meet the needs of the young people who live here. A charrette is usually a design competition where teams work on a problem, over a short period of time, and then present their ideas to the group. This charrette will be a collaboration, where Austin’s young people and adults can share their knowledge and find common ground. VISTA Summer Associates will help Territory gather the research, build a network of participants, and create the design activities that will be the foundation of the charrette. The VISTA Summer Associate will be hosted by Territory NFP, located in Chicago. Territory NFP is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program on Housing Action’s website.
