Virginia Housing Alliance - APAH Community Analyst VISTA

Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 17 Host Sites, all that either work to expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. This listing is to fill the Host Site opening at Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) located in Arlington, VA. APAH’s mission is to develop, preserve, and own quality, affordable places to live, to promote stability and opportunity for their residents, and to advocate with the people and communities they serve. APAH provides apartment homes to more than 2,000 low- and moderate- income households in the DC region. These stable homes are just the first step; low-income families face a multitude of challenges and barriers. APAH’s resident services program provides support and opportunity, in collaboration with community partners. To meet the goal of strengthening resident stability and economic opportunity, APAH’s resident services team proactively seeks to understand resident needs to offer appropriate support and programming. APAH is seeking a detail-oriented, organized self-starter, with strong skills in time management to serve as a Community Analyst VISTA. This individual will develop a community needs assessment framework, also known as a community scan, with the goal of enabling APAH to meet its residents' needs more effectively and efficiently. By strategically assessing the environments for APAH’s upcoming real estate projects through a community scan, APAH believes it can increase partnerships in new and current jurisdictions, close gaps in service, advance advocacy work, and more effectively meet resident needs.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will create a baseline resource assessment framework that can be implemented across each jurisdiction and market in the APAH portfolio, conduct a test community scan for one of APAH’s established properties to evaluate the effectiveness of the community needs framework, and develop a training for relevant staff on how to successfully implement the framework. The VISTA member will also cultivate existing and new partnerships to help create communities that encourage and embrace affordable housing by planning community partner meetings, identifying partner needs, and connecting with homelessness focused organizations to integrate best practices into APAH’s mission and programming. The VISTA member will collaborate with APAH staff in aggregating resident service data to identify service gaps and needs while establishing a lived experience committee to help inform decision making.
