*BMVP - Full STEAM Ahead: Expanding Education

The mission of Wise Wonders is to engage curious, creative, and scientific minds in a playful learning environment for all children and families. Nearly 3,500 children in Billings experience poverty, and Wise Wonders is located in an area with a 45% poverty rate. Low-income children exposed to STEAM educational opportunities in experiential programs are more likely to embrace other educational opportunities. Access to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) educational programming in neighborhood out-of-school facilities is a key component to fighting poverty. This project will help alleviate poverty by giving disadvantaged youth the skills and encouragement to embrace educational opportunities to build skills that will help them succeed in school and work. By providing children with hands-on learning opportunities, an opportunity is created to provide specialized attention and confidence building to children in need that could continue into a passion for life-long learning and development.

The VISTAs will: develop new volunteer recruitment and training strategies; expand and promote new STEAM exhibits and scholarship opportunities to increase community awareness / engagement; assist in the creation of a capital campaign and donor engagement programs to ensure sustainability of STEAM programs; and develop an outreach program in collaboration with local colleges, schools, and other independent school districts to provide STEAM programming in alignment with the Montana Education Standard.
