2022 Housing Counseling Capacity Builder Summer Associate

Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) is a HUD-Certified nonprofit organization that develops affordable housing and provides services that empower individuals and families to secure and retain quality housing. Prior to the pandemic, 51% of renters and 37% of homeowners in Lake County were already housing cost burdened. Now, an unprecedented number of tenants and homeowners are facing evictions and foreclosures and need help navigating the scary and confusing processes. The AmeriCorps member will play an integral role in building CPAH’s housing counseling capacity by (i) managing the implementation of a new online housing education platform and (ii) managing CPAH’s conversion to a new housing counseling client management system. The AmeriCorps member will also increase his or her affordable housing knowledge and skills. The ideal candidate will be passionate about social justice and affordable housing, have an interest in housing counseling and affordable housing, and be technology-savvy to help launch new tools that will help CPAH be more efficient and impactful in the communities we serve. The project will increase CPAH’s long-term housing counseling efficiency and capacity so that we can serve more clients and have better outcomes for low- and moderate-income households struggling with housing issues, particularly as we prepare for a potential surge of COVID-related evictions and foreclosures. This Housing Counseling Capacity Builder will be hosted by Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) located in Libertyville. CPAH is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions.
