2023 Be Mighty VISTA Summer Associate- Nixon Library

Be Mighty Little Rock is a city-wide anti-hunger campaign. Housed at the Central Arkansas Library System, Be Mighty promotes USDA meal programs for kids and teens 18 and younger. CALS operates 11 USDA meal sites. Kids and teens can pick up free breakfast and lunch six days a week during the summer. CALS also offers a variety of virtual grab-and-go programs. In addition to serving meals, Be Mighty provides nutrition education to children and teens. The VISTA member will fight poverty among kids, teens, and families in Little Rock by serving USDA meals through the Summer Food Service Program and by supporting efforts toward nutrition education, including informing patrons about SNAP eligibility and the application process. These efforts will help to create greater food security within the community by facilitating greater understanding of nutrition among children and families and informing patrons of additional means of support that are available.
