Big Brothers Big Sisters - Community Engagement VISTA

The Minnesota Alliance With Youth VISTA program places members in nonprofits, government, and schools in the Twin Cities to create, connect, and leverage resources to address education inequities such as the opportunity and achievement gaps. We build capacity, coordinate efforts that bridge and build the integration of school and community-wide support for youth, and actively engage youth as agents of change in closing these gaps. Our 20 person cohort meets regularly for professional development, team building, and peer support. This position is placed at Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities. Volunteer and child recruitment is the core of our mission. Without these two key stakeholders, our mission has no purpose. For several years, we have had a one-person recruitment department. We were able to get by on this due to our strong reputation in the community. Since the pandemic, we have seen our enrollment numbers decrease and recognize the need for a more strategic and powerful recruitment program. The VISTA member will work closely with the Manager of Community Engagement and Recruitment to create and strengthen processes and procedures to streamline recruiting at BBBS. The VISTA member will also help determine a logical and efficient division of labor between the Manager position and a future coordinator position. It has been so long since we have had additional support in recruitment that we want to be prepared to hire another permanent member of that team knowing we have systems in place to support them. Finally, the VISTA member will help us expand our reach in the community by identifying local partners and public events where we can promote recruitment opportunities. BBBS recently moved its headquarters to North Minneapolis, an area where there is high need for our services. We would like to become more involved in our neighborhood by identifying opportunities to promote our programs while also being a good partner.

Member Duties : Our VISTA member will be a key player on the Big Brothers Big Sisters Advancement department (made up of the marketing/communications, development, and recruitment teams). The goal will be for this individual to help create new and strengthen existing volunteer and child recruitment processes and procedures, and prepare for the eventual hire of a permanent Recruitment Coordinator position. The VISTA member will collaborate closely with the Program department to learn about our existing recruitment processes, gain insight into what is working and what needs to be improved, and propose changes to help improve the process. The VISTA member will also work closely with key partners to find new ways of promoting our mission to those in the surrounding community.
