PCCE Rochester Institute of Technology

*Applicant will need to provide Covid-19 vaccine documentation* Founded in 1829, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a diverse and collaborative community of engaged, socially conscious, and intellectually curious minds located 10 miles outside of Rochester, NY. RIT enrolls 18,000 students in more than 200 programs, making it among the largest private universities in the United States. RIT is the third largest producer of undergraduate STEM degrees among all private universities in the nation. The goal of the RIT FoodShare Center is to eliminate food insecurity on campus by (1) meeting the immediate and basic food and clothing needs of members of the RIT community; (2) inspiring a culture of care and sharing among members of the RIT and greater Rochester communities by shedding light on issues of food insecurity at RIT; (3) advancing internal and external policies, practices, and procedures that serve to mitigate food insecurity on campus. In this way, the work of the Center is squarely aimed at enhancing our campus-based efforts to address food insecurity in our community in the immediate term and to eliminate it completely in the longer term. This is an asset-based approach to the focus area that will require the development of mutually beneficial partnerships with campus and community stakeholders.

Member Duties : The Y2 VISTA will support the Center’s ability to meet its primary goal in three interrelated ways: (1) leverage outcomes of the Y1 community needs assessment and space audit to update programming/services around food justice education and freecycling; (2) developing internal (RIT) and external (Rochester) partnerships with for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations to ensure that the Center has access to low-cost and no-cost food; (3) diversifying the Center’s funding streams. In year two, our VISTA will build programs and refine services to intentionally act on the findings of our internal benchmarking data, NCHA, and the community needs assessment. Additionally, using the results of the physical space audit, to be completed in spring 2023, the Year Two VISTA will carry on the efforts of our current VISTA to implement changes to the current space as well as strategic recommendations for its new permanent home as part of the new RIT 50 year master plan.
