PCCE- Marist College

*Applicant will need to provide Covid-19 vaccine documentation* Marist is dedicated to helping students develop the intellect, character, and skills required for enlightened, ethical, and productive lives in the global community of the 21st century. The College fulfills its mission by pursuing three ideals: excellence in education, a sense of community, and a commitment to service. In Year 2 of this project, we propose to strengthen the collective impact of the college and local nonprofits to address food security in the Hudson Valley with coordinated food donations and volunteers.

Member Duties : The Marist VISTA will recruit and engage Marist student volunteers to assist with the ongoing services related to the antipoverty and food security work of partner organizations. The development of coordinated volunteer plans will result in a continuous roster of volunteers that enable partner organizations to address the food security needs of their participants. Another key aspect of the work will be to build the capacity of our 13-bed campus garden. The Marist VISTA will continue to build linkages with local fresh markets and food pantries to share surplus produce. Access to fresh vegetables and to garden spaces in the community and home gardens has been found to create a healthier food supply and reduce food insecurity, according to a study by researchers at the University of California and Santa Clara University.
