Campus Compact Northern Illinois University Rockford Promise

Spend a year at Northern Illinois University expanding capacity for a growing Promise program, Rockford Promise. Rockford Promise is a diverse scholarship and mentoring program that provides full-tuition scholarships and mentoring services to Rockford Public School students. Aligning with AmeriCorps' anti-poverty objectives, time spent at this post will include direct student intervention and support to over 100 low-income students, who are at risk due to their socioeconomic status. Additional success strategies include growing a mentoring program and encouraging community and civic engagement opportunities for these students. The AmeriCorps member will contribute to the capacity-building goals of the project by performing activities such as building vital data reporting capabilities and developing programming and student support materials. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $575.40. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide a parking pass, food & grocery gift cards, internet stipend. The AmeriCorps member serving at NIU Rockford Promise will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The AmeriCorps Member assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of activities designed to increase student retention, persistence, and completion of a college degree or certification program by Rockford Promise Scholars at Northern Illinois University. Provides guidance and support for students and mentors, enhances student success by assisting with programs and services including personal coaching, ongoing support, and follow-up; workshops, degree progress consultations, and referrals to other on and off-campus resources.
