2022 Youth Program Summer Associates
 
 
 
The mission of Centro Romero is to empower those with the fewest options in the immigrant and refugee community by developing and strengthening the family unit, fostering community leadership and providing quality social and adjustment services. The goal for the two Summer Associates is to increase the program capacity to provide expanded and more in-depth services to 50 youth program participants and to achieve better outcomes. This means that the associates will learn new skills during their ten-week term and will assist the youth in the coming school year to raise the academic levels of Latino youth within the context of promoting youth leadership, nurturing parent involvement, and fostering community participation. The long-term goal of this project is to prepare youth program participants better prepared for high school, college, and beyond. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : Overall responsibilities for this position include providing direct academic and enrichment services to participants in the Youth Program, including developing, scheduling, delivery and evaluation of educational, recreational, and social development services to participants. Specific duties include: • Provides tutoring to program youth • Create recreational and social development activities for program youth • Helps students complete homework before doing other activities • Attends all leadership trainings, workshops and staff meeting • Collect service data and reports • Organizes materials, games, books, etc. • Gives a daily/weekly report to the Youth Program Manager • Gives pre- and post-intervention surveys to youth in program.
