The Oasis Institute is a national nonprofit organization founded in St. Louis in 1982. Oasis promotes healthy aging through lifelong learning, active lifestyles, and volunteer engagement. St. Louis Oasis serves older adults with an average age of 73, with 19% living in poverty area zip codes. For 37 years, Oasis has developed and scaled programs, many evidence-based, starting in St. Louis and then replicating them across the country. Oasis helps thousands of adults discover how aging can be less about limitations and more about possibilities. Our list of 700+ partners includes health providers, corporations, senior centers, community organizations, schools, libraries, universities and colleges, senior living organizations, faith-based organizations, and more.

Member Duties : During the summer months, the Health and Program SA will be working closely with the St. Louis Oasis Team on the following program topics: Arts and Humanities, Special Events, Exercise, Falls Prevention, Chronic Disease Management, Social Isolation, Nutrition and Caregiving. The goal of Oasis programming is to facilitate active lifestyles, provide educational opportunities and encourage socialization for older adults. Oasis programs have developed and implemented modifications to programming to meet the social and physical needs of participants due toCOVID-19which need continual monitoring and adjusting. The SA VISTA will be coordinating and facilitating programming and providing technical support to older adults for some virtual programs as well as support the transition back to in-person programming. Data collection and reporting, community partnership building, and volunteer recruitment and engagement activities will be key tasks for the VISTA with a focus on low-income areas.
