2022-2023 Program and Community Organizing VISTA
 
 
 
This Program and Community Organization VISTA will be hosted by Northwest Side Community Development Corporation (NWSCDC) located in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood. NWSCDC is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program on Housing Action’s website. NWSCDC works towards expediting economic development in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood. The mission of NWSCDC is to provide Belmont Cragin and the northwest side of Chicago the tools and resources to preserve affordable housing and provide business development and assistance to local businesses. NWSCDC seeks a Program and Community Organizing VISTA to optimize the services that our program participants receive. The VISTA will ensure that CDC participants have long-term follow up, including referrals to other programs and services offered by NWSCDC, and our partners. This position will also venture into community organizing by connecting renters, homeowners, and business owners to speak about anti-displacement and community development strategies that provide equitable opportunities. An ideal candidate for this position is someone who shares our passion for housing justice and community development. The ideal candidate may also be a member of the communities that we serve. Candidates to be considered for this position must possess strong written and oral communication skills and have a passion for service.

Member Duties : · Reach out to past participants with unresolved counseling outcomes and provide referrals to participate in other Northwest Center programs that aim to lift families out of poverty. · Collaborate with the staff to create workshops designed to teach current and potential landlords best practices on running listings and interacting with current tenants. · Collaborate with staff to develop residents into community leaders. · Create a comprehensive organizational resource guide to provide to all program participants.
