2022-2023 Fair Housing Enforcement VISTA

This VISTA will be hosted by HOPE Fair Housing Center located in Wheaton, IL. HOPE Fair Housing Center is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. This position can start on November 7, December 5, and January 17. HOPE Fair Housing Center is the oldest and largest fair housing center in the state of Illinois. Founded in 1968, HOPE works to create housing opportunities for all and end housing discrimination. HOPE accomplishes this goal through education, outreach, enforcement, training, and advocacy. The VISTA member will work directly with HOPE’s enforcement team to review and analyze internal and external housing data and develop processes and a toolkit to strategically approach the fair housing issues impacting our service area and state, as well as more efficiently implement advocacy and litigation strategies to create housing opportunities. The VISTA member will help us determine what data sets and mapping programs are the best fits for the type of enforcement work we want to do and/or highlight visually. They will make recommendations for funding and sustaining the organization’s data/mapping needs. The Vista member will streamline our volunteer recruitment and training process to allow us to diversify and maintain a substantial fair housing tester pool. This VISTA will collaborate closest with their supervisor, HOPE’s Director of Enforcement, and occasionally interact with other staff members. The ideal candidate is organized, strategic, and communicative, and has a genuine passion for civil rights and housing justice, along with an interest in learning about fair housing. Experience with Excel, GIS, Mapping, and data analysis is strongly preferred.
