2022 Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement Summer Associate

This Volunteer and Recruitment Summer Associate will be hosted by Chicago Furniture Bank (CFB) located in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood. The CFB is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program on Housing Action’s website. CFB partners with 400+ local social service agencies to furnish homes for those leaving shelters and moving into permanent housing. CFB believes every person should be able to sleep on a bed, share a meal at a table, and do homework on a desk. CFB currently furnishes 15 homes each day, and is the largest furniture bank in the country. Through partnerships with Ikea, Amazon, Walter E. Smithe and many more, we allow clients to handpick the furniture they want for their home in order to provide dignity and comfort as they begin a new chapter in their lives. The Summer Associate will research, plan and begin to launch the CFB’s volunteer program. Currently the furniture bank does not have any regular volunteers. Our organization must create a strong volunteer program to continue to expand its capacity to meet the need for our furnishing program. The work accomplished in this project will expand CFB’s volunteer community and drive engagement. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, have interpersonal skills, be detailed oriented and strongly believe in our mission. The CFB is a rapidly growing nonprofit, and candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup type environment. They will have full support and access to senior leadership, but should be able to work independently to execute on high-level tasks.

Member Duties : The Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement Summer Associate will work directly with CFB team members to researching, strategizing and implement volunteer recruitment, engagement and management strategy / procedures for the CFB. The key objects of the position include: 1) developing a recruitment and engagement strategy for volunteers, 2) recruiting more volunteers, 3) producing materials to help engage and educate community members about volunteering.
