Campus Compact Wheaton College First Generation Low Income
The mission of Wheaton College is to provide a transformative liberal arts education for intellectually curious students in a collaborative, academically vibrant residential community that values a diverse world. As an institution, we are working to better deliver that brand promise to the low-income and first-generation college students enrolled at Wheaton College. Pell recipients are 19% of our student population and first-gen students are 24%. Our project “Centering Low-Income and First-Generation College Student Success” works to create curricula that can support staff and faculty in learning how to better serve this community, to create resources to help inform students’ home communities about how to support their students, as well as systemize the work of our campus’ First-Gen and Low-Income Task Force. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $697.20. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide on-campus housing, a parking pass, fitness center access, and a meal allowance. The AmeriCorps member serving at Wheaton will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year.
