2022 - 2023 Homeless Continuum of Care Program VISTA

Lake County’s Community Development Division (LCCD) supports vulnerable populations in Lake County through support of organizations creating affordable housing, assisting the homeless, and creating welcoming communities. LCCD serves as the administrative lead for the Lake County Coalition for the Homeless (LCCH) – a consortium of individuals and community organizations that strives to ensure that the homeless have access to needed services. To that end, LCCH identifies community needs and underserved populations, manages coordination, and explores possible ways to fill gaps in services. Being able to share information on an ongoing basis increases the opportunities to collaborate while reducing duplication of services. LCCH has had tremendous success in reducing chronic and veteran homelessness in Lake County. The group continues to drive toward the goal of ending homelessness—having a system of care where people experiencing a housing crisis are quickly housing and given the supports they need to succeed. This VISTA position will increase the capacity of LCCH by developing systems that can be sustained by volunteers related to: 1) Amplifying the voice of people experiencing homelessness. 2) Marketing and communications tools LCCH uses to mobilize the coalition and educate the public. 3) Training LCCH leadership and staff on concepts and skills to be most effective at ending homelessness. Ideal candidates will have experience working with social service agencies and an interest in homelessness, poverty and housing. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be organized and work well independently.
