The VISTA Food Access Associate fills a dynamic public-facing role focused on supporting and expanding the Community Action Center’s (CAC) food access work in Faribault. CAC is a human services organization whose mission is to promote a healthy, caring, and just community for all people through resources, advocacy, and volunteer effort; we provide food access to thousands of households throughout Rice County along with wrap-around help with housing, addiction recovery, clothing, and employment, among other things. This VISTA member will continue our food access work in Faribault though program development, community outreach & engagement, local partnerships, and collaboration with program staff to improve our offerings. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Member Duties : Community Engagement: Develop formal training materials and process for food shelf volunteers. Work with CAC staff and community partners to develop a Community Advocacy Council to inform and engage with CAC’s work in Faribault. Collaborate closely with the Food Access Team and other CAC staff to identify new potential community partners and food resources. Develop food shelf branding and marketing materials Food Program Development: Expand and develop the Basic Blessings backpack program, home delivery program, food rescue and mobile distributions, using the CAC cargo van as needed. Formalize and enhance existing systems for data collection & inventory management. Improve and diversify culturally specific offerings. Comply with federal regulations set forth by TEFAP, food recalls, safe food handling and civil rights training, follow all safety procedures and communicate appropriately.
