2022-2023 NWC Development Team Specialist VISTA
 
 
 
This Development Team Specialist will be hosted by Northwest Center (NWC) located in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood. NWC is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. NWC is a community-based nonprofit organization that has a 19-year track record of identifying and responding to the needs of the community by leveraging resources to improve economic well-being and quality of life. This position will specialize in building capacity for our Development Team, which includes the organization’s grant writing, individual giving, data and evaluation, marketing, and reporting work. In turn, this project’s work will support NWC’s services and programs in housing and community development, financial counseling, community organizing, and Belmont Cragin-specific initiatives. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and organization skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks within established timelines, a track record of effectively employing a relational and collaborative approach to projects, the desire and ability to take ownership of your work, creativity and critical thinking, and a demonstrated commitment to racial equity, social justice, community organizing, advocacy, and doing “with” rather than “for” communities. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Member Duties : The NWC Development Team Specialist’s overarching goal will be to help NWC leverage resources in our Development Team work, supporting NWC in securing $10,000 worth of additional funding and 350 more people to receive housing services. Member duties to achieve these goals include: participating in Development Team meetings, researching best practices, documenting existing processes and systems, and designing a plan for improvement; refining the individual giving plan for sustainability and collaborating on at least one fundraising event, codifying work into ongoing learning materials; and meeting all Housing Action Illinois and AmeriCorps expectations. In turn, this work will support the mission of NWC to identify and respond to the needs of the community in Belmont Cragin and the broader Northwest Side.
