Economic and Community Development Inst. (ECDI) Summer VISTA

The Economic and Community Development Institute’s (ECDI) mission is to invest in people to create measurable and enduring social and economic change. ECDI helps nascent and expanding low-to-moderate income (LMI) entrepreneurs enter the economic mainstream by providing access to capital and resources through small business loans and personal coaching. ECDI seeks to revitalize distressed communities by creating inclusive growth and strengthening local economies. In 2019, ECDI staff recognized the significance of operating our headquarters in Devon Triangle, a USDA designated food desert, and sought to find ways to provide the community with fresh produce and engage residents through workshops and classes. The Community Garden was created to provide free, fresh produce to ECDI’s neighbors in Devon Triangle and to the residents of the Food Fort, ECDI’s food-specific business incubator. Regular “farmstand” events are held to connect with neighbors and Food Fort members to distribute produce.
