The Rockford University AmeriCorps member will have the opportunity to bring substantial change and support to populations in great need. The member will work in the Jane Addams Center for Civic Engagement, which serves as a resource for engagement, and works with Community Partners to help restore and enrich the lives of our fellow citizens. Aligning with the Education area, the member's work will focus on four projects: Racial Equity and Social Justice program, Blackhawk Neighborhood Revitalization initiative, Holistic Student Support program, and Civic Engagement and Your Career program. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $513.94. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide on-campus housing, parking, a public transit pass, food assistance, fitness center access, access to free or reduced courses. The AmeriCorps member serving at Rockford University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The member will support coordination of programming and resources as well as development of assessment tools for a Racial Equity and Social Justice program on our campus. In the broader Rockford community, the member will be instrumental in expanding community-engagement opportunities for our students in the economically stressed Blackhawk Commons neighborhood of Rockford. The member will also be part of teams working on piloting three different on-campus Student Support initiatives: a neighborhood garden, a Share Shop/Free Store, and an affinity group for student-parents. With Career Services, the member will design and pilot opportunities for students to learn about Public Service careers and post-graduation service, and support the Jane Addams Center director in developing Career Path tracks to explore careers in Public Service and Social Justice fields.
