StarkFresh is a small, but mighty 501(c)3 nonprofit located in Canton, OH, & servicing Stark County, OH. Our mission is tackling the causes of hunger by creating realistic pathways out of poverty. Although our organization has been around in various fashions since 1984, we didn’t start focusing on food insecurity until 2011. Being a small organization with several large-scale programs & a limited paid staff, we are quite adept at utilizing partnerships & our volunteer network to keep the programs running smoothly. We have a myriad of programming that advances us towards our goal to create an overarching, integrated solution to the problem of increasing fresh, nutritious food access & consumption in chronically underserved neighborhoods throughout the county. These programs include Free Seed Library network, Teaching Farm, Training Farm, Cooperative Farm, Food Justice Campus which houses our Food Incubation Center, Shared Commercial Kitchen Space, Shared Office Space, Mobile Grocery Market, and nonprofit Grocery Store. The Summer Associate Mobile Market VISTA will work with a volunteer workforce to ensure smooth, daily operations of the Mobile Grocery Market. VISTA will work with Farm Manager to coordinate crop yields. Candidate should be a confident, self-starter with strong project coordination experience and expect to work outside in the sun & with their hands. VISTA can expect to have many opportunities to learn more about addressing systemic racism and the lasting effects it continues to have on our food system. Service starts June 21 and ends Aug 29. Member Duties : The Summer Associate Mobile Market VISTA Member will help with everyday operations of the Mobile Grocery Market. Duties include coordinate with StarkFresh staff and Farm Manager to coordinate frequency and quantity of food being available for the market; Coordinate with growing partners and StarkFresh staff to ensure proper price margins are being maintained for program sustainability; Drive Mobile Grocery Market vehicle to and from stops; Take customer orders, bag orders, complete financial transaction; load and stock Market vehicle.
