Campus Compact SUNY Buffalo State College West Side
The Civic and Community Engagement Office advances the urban-engaged anchor mission of Buffalo State by providing curricular and co-curricular learning opportunities, developing civic skills, and building reciprocal community partnerships that promote equity and address community-identified priorities. The West Side project will seek to increase the number of individuals served. The AmeriCorps member will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as designing capacity building materials for food pantry partners; recruiting and managing volunteers; and coordinating financial literacy programs for community members. In this role, the member will support data collection and analysis to measure the impact of campus-community efforts. The member will also be a part of several campus and community teams/committees, working to strengthen the west side neighborhood, leveraging the intellectual, human, and economic capital of the college. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $575.40. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide a reduced-fee parking pass and professional development opportunities. The AmeriCorps member serving at Buffalo State will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will: Develop capacity-building projects for food security and financial literacy community partners, including the creation of manuals, training guides, tracking mechanisms, communication materials, and evaluation tools. Implement evaluation tools to measure the impact of food security, financial literacy, and volunteer programs on the community partner organizations/staff, community members, student volunteers, and the college. Recruit, educate, and train post-secondary students (college students) and community volunteers to impact community partner projects and initiatives on the west side. Participate in committee discussions and activities to further the goals of the project. Committee membership will include Food Policy Council, West Side Promise Steering Committee, and Anchor Mission Initiatives Leadership Team and Steering Committee.
