PHENND Fellows- HIAS Immigrant Health Access Specialist

HIAS Pennsylvania provides legal and social services to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers from all backgrounds in order to ensure their fair treatment and full integration into American society. We do this through four distinct programs: Refugee Resettlement, Asylee Outreach, Legal Services, and Citizenship for Elderly and Vulnerable. HIAS Pennsylvania also advocates for just and inclusive practices. Our health services program currently assists newly-arrived refugees to access medical insurance and initial health screening services.

Member Duties : The overall goal of the VISTA project is to expand HIAS Pennsylvania’s capacity to connect our low-income, often underinsured, immigrant clients to much-needed healthcare, prioritizing the most-needed and persistently most-challenging services: primary care, dentistry, optometry, behavioral health. They will do that by identifying appropriate regional partners that meet client needs and developing both educational materials and volunteer training to sustainably connect clients to services. In doing so, clients’ critical health needs are addressed, allowing them to pursue other areas of their lives, including employment, from a place of strength, dignity, and stability.

Program Benefits : Education award upon successful completion of service ,  SEPTA Monthly Transportation Pass ,  Childcare assistance if eligible ,  Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend ,  Living Allowance ,  Relocation Allowance ,  Health Coverage* ,  Training .
