***To be eligible for this position, candidates must commit to serve full-time for one year with United Way.*** United Way of King County’s mission is to bring caring people together to give, volunteer, and take action to help people in need and solve our community’s toughest challenges. The VISTA will work closely with the Program Manager to increase the capacity of United Way of King County’s Childhood Nutrition program. The VISTA member will serve within a large cohort of VISTA members working to fight poverty in King County.

Member Duties : The Childhood Nutrition Programs VISTA will increase access to federal meal programs for low-income children and teens, aged 18 and under, by enhancing technical assistance and available tools for schools and community partners operating these programs across Washington. Duties include consulting with schools and community partners to support the implementation and improvment of alternative breakfast models, the Summer Food Service Program, the Seamless Summer Option, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program. Additionally, a goal of the VISTA will be to raise awareness of the Community Eligibility Provision, an alternative method for claiming student meals in high poverty schools, to eligible districts. This project fights poverty by increasing access to federal meal programs for students and by raising awareness of the Community Eligibility Provision.
