Catherine McAuley Center: Tutor Development VISTA, IAMNCC

The Catherine McAuley Center offers hope and opportunity through educational and supportive services that promote stability, skill-building, and connection. The Educational Services program helps over 450 refugee, immigrant, and adult learners in a typical year. This VISTA position will build capacity by evaluating existing volunteer training practices and developing new materials and processes to better train, develop, and support tutors to carry out educational services including English, math, computer, conversation skills, and citizenship exam prep. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***

Member Duties : This project will help review, revise, and improve upon existing onboarding, training and support processes for volunteer tutors. In revisiting and improving these resources, our goal is to increase tutor retention. The VISTA will help to identify and develop opportunities to streamline and fortify volunteer onboarding by leveraging experienced volunteers. Over the course of the project, VISTA members will review our existing training curriculum, seek feedback from current volunteers, make and pilot suggested tweaks, assess outcomes from the changes, recruit and onboard volunteers, explore partnerships for volunteer tutor recruitment, and develop professional training skills.
