Hamline University, IAMNCC

Hamline University’s mission is to create a diverse and collaborative community of learners dedicated to the development of students' knowledge, values, and skills for successful lives of leadership, scholarship, and service. Hamline community is driven by that same spirit, brought to life in the words of John Wesley: "Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can." Hamline provides a college experience that transforms students of all backgrounds into the leaders they were born to be. For the 2021-2022 academic year, approximately 41 percent of our undergraduate students are the first in their family to attend college, and 38 percent of the student body is eligible for federal Pell grants. Hamline strives to provide a high quality education that will empower all students to achieve their life goals. This VISTA position will be at the center of the coordinated efforts to support low-income students around issues of food access on our campus and with community partners. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***

Member Duties : The goal of this project is to increase low-income students’ academic performance and persistence to degree by enhancing their access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally-appropriate foods. The VISTA will collaborate with stakeholders from across the University to conduct a needs assessment of students; carry out a multimedia approach to inform low-income students about the various resources they may access in order to address their food insecurity and launch an awareness campaign for the greater Hamline community regarding food insecurity and poverty in our community; Strengthen and expand on the existing Food Resource Center model on the Hamline campus to improve services, including additional basic needs resources, to better serve undergraduate students facing food insecurity.
